Man Lives with Dead Girlfriend’s Body for 2 Days

A disturbing case of domestic violence resulting in homicide has recently emerged from Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, India. This case involves a 29-year-old woman, Ms. Ritika Sen, who had been living with her partner, Mr. Sachin Rajput, in a live-in relationship for over three years.

Sachin, 32 years old, is legally married to another woman and is a father of two. Despite his marital status, he was living with Ritika in Gayatri Nagar, Bhopal, for approximately the past nine months.

Incident Overview

On the night of June 27, 2025, the couple had a heated argument. Allegedly, Sachin suspected Ritika of being unfaithful and accused her of having an affair with her employer. In a sudden outburst of anger and emotional instability, he strangled her to death.
Following the act, he did not inform anyone immediately. Instead, he wrapped Ritika’s body in a blanket and continued to live in the same room, even sleeping beside the deceased for two consecutive nights.

Delayed Confession and Discovery

Sachin remained silent about the incident for nearly 48 hours. It was not until June 29, while under the influence of alcohol, that he mentioned the crime to his friend, Anuj, in Misrod. Initially, the friend did not believe him and took it as a drunken joke.

However, on July 1, when Sachin repeated the confession in a sober state, Anuj realised the gravity of the situation and contacted the local authorities at approximately 5:00 PM.

Police Response and Medical Examination

Upon receiving the tip-off, officers from the Bajaria Police Station arrived at the couple’s residence. As described by Sachin, they found Ritika’s decomposing body wrapped in a blanket on the bed.

The police immediately arranged for the body to be transported for postmortem examination, which will determine the exact cause and time of death, among other forensic details.

According to Shilpa Kaurav, Station In-Charge at Bajaria PS,The couple fought, the argument escalated, and the man strangled her in a fit of rage. He then continued to live in the same room, sleeping next to the body, before revealing it in a drunken confession.”

Suspect Profile and Psychological State

Sachin Rajput, a jobless man from Sironj, Vidisha district, reportedly suffered from emotional instability and severe jealousy. His unemployed status, combined with his suspicions about Ritika’s fidelity, may have contributed to a psychological breakdown, culminating in the violent act.
He admitted to excessive alcohol consumption following the incident, possibly as a coping mechanism to deal with guilt or trauma.

Social and Legal Implications

This case highlights several important public health and societal issues:

  • The psychological strain in live-in relationships, particularly when accompanied by economic stress and emotional instability.
  • The potential dangers of undiagnosed mental health issues and substance abuse.
  • The failure to intervene early in cases where domestic disputes are frequent or escalating.

Conclusion

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of mental health support, relationship counselling, and timely intervention in cases of domestic discord. Law enforcement and medical teams are continuing their investigation and forensic examination to establish a complete timeline and motive.
