FIR Filed After Cockroach Found in Cold Coffee

A 25-year-old man discovered a cockroach in his cold coffee at a cafe on New Link Road in Mumbai’s Malad area, prompting him to file a police complaint. The incident, which occurred on August 30 at around 9:30 PM, has led to an FIR being registered against the cafe owner and a waiter.

Incident Details

The man, who owns an event management business, visited the cafe with a friend. They ordered two glasses of cold coffee but soon noticed that the beverage was unusually bitter. After complaining to the waiter, additional sugar was added to the drinks.

As the man finished his coffee, he found a cockroach at the bottom of his glass. He immediately photographed the insect and reported the issue to the cafe staff.

Response from Cafe Staff

The cafe staff took the man to the kitchen to demonstrate how the coffee was prepared, showing him that the shaker used was sealed with no apparent gaps where the cockroach could have entered. Despite their assurances, the customer was unsatisfied and proceeded to file a complaint with the Malad Police, alleging negligence on the part of the cafe staff.

Police Action

Following the complaint, the Malad Police registered an FIR against the cafe, initiating an investigation into the matter.

Other Incidents of Food Safety Concerns

This incident is not isolated, as there have been other recent cases raising concerns about food safety in India. Few days ago, in Ahmedabad, a dead cockroach was found in a sambar served at a five-star hotel, leading the local civic authorities to seal the kitchen for 48 hours due to unhygienic conditions.
