Viral Video Shows Avocado Pani Puri at ₹220

Pani puri, one of India’s most beloved street foods, has recently received a surprising makeover. Instead of the usual spicy potato filling, some outlets in Delhi NCR are now serving avocado pani puri. This fusion snack has quickly gone viral on social media, leaving foodies divided between excitement and disbelief.

What’s Inside the New Avocado Pani Puri?

At Gurgaon’s well-known Prince Chaat in Galleria Market, customers can try six pieces of crispy puris filled with chilled, mashed avocado, onions, and tomatoes. The familiar aloo masala is entirely replaced with this creamy green fruit. The price, however, is a talking point, ₹220 for six pieces, which many feel is steep compared to the regular version that usually costs around ₹20–30.

Why Avocado in Chaat?

Food blogger Karan Marwah, who first showcased this unusual fusion, explained that while avocado may seem uncommon in pani puri, the history of food has seen similar shifts. Potatoes, for instance, were once foreign to India and were only introduced in the 17th century through the Portuguese. By that logic, incorporating avocado into Indian chaat could be seen as an experimental evolution rather than a complete misfit.

Internet Reacts: Love It or Hate It?

The avocado pani puri video has triggered a storm of reactions:

  • Some praised the creativity, saying, “It looks delicious”, and “I tried avocado chaat once and it was tasty.”
  • Others strongly rejected the idea with comments like, “We definitely don’t need this”, and “Nooo, pani puri should never have avocado.”
  • A few netizens even joked about future experiments, with one remarking, “Sushi pakoda loading.”

The cost also drew criticism, with users pointing out that they could enjoy six regular pani puris for just ₹20 instead of spending over ₹200.

Can Avocado Fit Into Indian Snacks?

From a nutrition perspective, avocado brings a dose of healthy fats, vitamins, and fiber that the traditional potato filling lacks. However, its calorie density and high price make it more of an occasional indulgence rather than an everyday street food option.

Conclusion

Whether seen as an innovative twist or an unnecessary experiment, avocado pani puri has certainly caught public attention. While traditionalists may stick to the classic version, adventurous food lovers may welcome this creamy, global ingredient into India’s favourite street snack.
