Mysterious Illness Claims Life of 5-Year-Old in Rajouri

A five-year-old girl tragically passed away, and her five siblings were hospitalized after falling critically ill in Badhaal village, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The incident occurred on Sunday and raised fresh concerns about a possible outbreak of disease in the region.

Family Struck by Severe Illness

According to officials, six children from the same family exhibited symptoms similar to food poisoning and were rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) in Rajouri for treatment. Out of the six, four critically ill children were referred to a hospital in Jammu for advanced care. Unfortunately, one of the siblings, identified as Nadina Kousar, succumbed to the illness during treatment.
Currently, two children remain under close medical supervision.

Authorities Respond to the Crisis

This is not the first such incident in Badhaal village. In December 2024, nine people from two different families lost their lives to an unknown disease in the same area. The repeated occurrences have sparked alarm among residents and authorities alike.

Recurring Tragedy in the Same Village

Senior officials, including Abhishek Sharma (Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajouri), Tejinder Singh (Deputy Inspector General, Rajouri-Poonch Range), and Gaurav Sikarwar (Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri), visited Badhaal village to assess the situation. Their visit aimed to ensure adequate measures are in place to prevent further tragedies.

Ongoing Efforts to Identify the Disease

In light of the previous fatalities, several national institutions have deployed teams to investigate the situation. These organizations include the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), PGI Chandigarh, and the National Institute of Virology.
These teams are working in collaboration with local authorities to identify the cause of the illness and prevent its spread. Surveillance and monitoring efforts have been intensified in the region.

Concern and Caution

The recurring health crisis in Badhaal village has highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive public health measures in remote areas. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the root cause of the illness and ensure that residents receive proper medical care and support.
