Delhi Schools Ordered to Identify Illegal Migrants Now
Schools across Delhi have been instructed to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrant children enrolled in their institutions. Additionally, officials have mandated that birth certificates should not be issued to individuals falling under this category. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also been directed to remove encroachments made by illegal Bangladeshi migrants in various parts of the city.
These measures were discussed during a virtual meeting held on December 12, chaired by the Principal Secretary (Home) of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). Senior representatives from the MCD, including the Additional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, participated in the meeting.
Schools to Conduct Verification Drives
The Education Department has been tasked with implementing identification and verification drives to detect illegal Bangladeshi migrant children in municipal schools. According to B.P. Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of MCD, schools must ensure proper documentation and verification during the admission process.
To achieve this, all school heads have been asked to submit their reports by December 31, outlining the actions taken to comply with these directives.
Public Health Department's Role in Birth Certificate Issuance
The Public Health Department has been instructed to exercise caution while registering births and issuing birth certificates. The department must ensure that no illegal Bangladeshi migrants receive these documents. Furthermore, officials will review previously issued birth certificates to verify whether any have been granted to unauthorised individuals.
Regular Reporting to Monitor Progress
To ensure compliance, the MCD has made it mandatory to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) every Friday by 3:30 PM. These reports will be forwarded to higher authorities for review. The directive highlights the importance of regular updates and accountability at all levels.
Why These Measures Are Being Enforced
These preventive steps address concerns about unauthorized migration and its impact on infrastructure, resources, and governance. By involving multiple departments, the authorities seek to implement a coordinated and thorough approach to tackle this issue effectively.
Transitioning smoothly from one directive to another, these measures emphasize a collective responsibility among schools, public health officials, and zonal authorities to ensure their timely execution.
