Mumbai Man Tries to Kill Live-in Partner and Child

A shocking case has emerged from Mumbai, where a man was arrested for allegedly trying to kill his 23-year-old live-in partner and her young son. According to police officials, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in the Malwani area and involved both physical assault and attempted poisoning.

Incident Details

Police identified the accused as Siddharth Patel, 43, who had been living with the woman, identified as S. Parab, and her three-and-a-half-year-old son for the past two months. Investigators revealed that Patel became extremely angry after learning that Parab had recently met her husband in Mira Road just two days earlier.
In a fit of rage, Patel allegedly began verbally abusing and physically assaulting Parab. Despite her attempts to calm him down, he reportedly forced her to swallow several Crocin (paracetamol) tablets that were available at home. This was intended as a form of punishment, according to her police statement.

Attempt to Strangle Child

The situation escalated further when Patel allegedly targeted Parab’s young son. Police reports state that he wrapped the electric wire of an extension board around the child’s neck in an attempt to strangle him. At this point, Parab screamed for help, which drew the attention of nearby residents.
Her cries prompted neighbours to intervene, and she immediately called the police control room. Responding officers rushed to the scene and took Patel into custody without delay.

Medical Response and Current Status

Both Parab and her son were quickly shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali (West) for medical care. Doctors confirmed that they were undergoing treatment and would provide a detailed health assessment once Parab was discharged.
Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar from Malvani Police Station confirmed that Patel has been booked under attempt to murder and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Medical and Legal Perspective

From a medical standpoint, forcing someone to ingest an overdose of paracetamol (Crocin) can have serious health risks, including potential liver damage, nausea, and abdominal pain. Strangulation, even if interrupted, may cause airway injury, neurological damage, or psychological trauma in children.
Legally, such actions fall under severe criminal offences, especially when involving a minor. The swift intervention of neighbours and immediate hospital care likely prevented a potential tragedy in this case.

Conclusion

The case of the Mumbai man held for attempting to kill his live-in partner and her child highlights the dangerous consequences of domestic violence. Authorities emphasise the importance of reporting such incidents promptly to prevent escalation and safeguard vulnerable individuals, particularly children.
