Kerala Boy Wants Biryani Instead of Upma at Anganwadi
A heartwarming video of a young boy from Kerala requesting biryani and chicken fry instead of upma at his Anganwadi has gained widespread attention. The video, which was shared by his mother on Instagram, quickly went viral and even caught the attention of the Kerala government.
Minister Acknowledges the Child's Request
Kerala’s Health, Women, and Child Welfare Minister, Veena George, took note of the video and shared it on her social media page. She acknowledged the innocence of the child’s request and assured that the anganwadi menu would be reviewed. In her message, she extended warm regards to the child, Shanku, as well as his mother and the anganwadi staff.
Current Anganwadi Meal Program
The minister highlighted that anganwadis in Kerala provide a variety of nutritious meals to ensure the well-being of children. She mentioned that under the current government, a scheme to distribute eggs and milk has been successfully implemented. Additionally, local bodies, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, offer diverse food options at these centers.
The Viral Video and Public Response
In the video, Shanku, wearing a cap, asks his mother, “I want ‘birnani’ (biryani) and ‘poricha kozhi’ (chicken fried) instead of upma at the Anganwadi.” His mother captured the scene when he was eating biryani at home, and after putting it online, the video rapidly became viral.
Following the viral clip, some individuals even offered to provide biryani and chicken fry for Shanku. His mother shared with the media that they received calls from people who wanted to fulfil his wish.
Public Debate on Anganwadi Meals
The video has sparked discussions online, with many social media users supporting Shanku’s request. Some suggested that the government should improve meal quality in anganwadis by reallocating resources, such as reducing food supplies to prisoners and prioritizing children’s nutrition instead.
Conclusion
The Kerala government has taken Shanku’s request into consideration and may introduce modifications to the anganwadi menu. While ensuring balanced and nutritious meals remains a priority, the government is open to suggestions that enhance the dietary variety for children in these childcare centers.
