Gujarat man arrested for raping sister at knifepoint

In a shocking case from Bhavnagar district, a Gujarat man raped his sister at knifepoint on two separate occasions within six weeks. The 29-year-old accused, who is married and works as a driver, allegedly used threats and physical violence to assault his 22-year-old sister while their parents were at home but unaware of the incident.

How the Crime Unfolded

According to the complaint, the survivor had been in a relationship with a young man from her village for the past three years. Her brother, aware of this, blackmailed her and later committed the assault.

  • The first incident occurred on July 13, when the accused’s wife was visiting her parents.
  • The second assault happened on August 22, when his wife had stepped out for household work.

During both instances, he threatened his sister at knifepoint. In addition to the sexual assault, he inflicted further trauma by branding her thigh with a burning bidi.

Victim’s Courage and Police Action

After the second assault, the young woman reached out for help by calling the 181 women’s helpline, which supports survivors of gender-based violence. Police officers from Talaja immediately intervened, recording her statement and registering an FIR.
Medical examinations were conducted for both the accused and the survivor. Investigators also seized the knife and clothing connected to the crime. The accused has since been arrested under Section 64(2)(F)(M) and Section 115 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Mental and Physical Health Impact

Incidents like these not only cause severe physical injuries but also leave lasting psychological trauma for survivors. Medical experts emphasise the importance of timely medical care, trauma counselling, and community support for victims of sexual violence. In this case, branding with a bidi adds another layer of physical injury, requiring immediate medical attention to prevent infection and scarring.

Conclusion

The case of a Gujarat man who rapes his sister at knifepoint underscores the urgent need for stronger community awareness, prompt legal action, and accessible mental health support for survivors of sexual violence. Early reporting and intervention can prevent repeated assaults and help survivors begin their path to recovery.
