Beed Boy Loses Vision After Firecracker Explosion

In a heartbreaking incident during Diwali celebrations, a 6-year-old boy lost vision in one eye after a firecracker accident in Beed, Maharashtra. The incident took place on Monday evening when the child, a resident of Nagoba Galli, was lighting firecrackers outside his home.
According to doctors, the boy’s cornea was completely damaged after a firecracker exploded in his hand. The child is now receiving treatment at a private hospital in Beed.

How the Incident Happened

The accident occurred when the firecracker the boy was lighting failed to ignite the first time. Thinking it was safe, he tried to relight it. Unfortunately, the firecracker exploded suddenly, causing severe injuries to his left eye and hand.
Initially, the boy was taken to the Civil Hospital in Beed for emergency care. Later, he was transferred to a private medical facility for specialized treatment. Doctors there confirmed that the blast had destroyed his cornea, resulting in permanent vision loss in one eye.

Doctor’s Warning to Parents

Speaking about the case, a doctor from the private hospital said,
“The child’s cornea has been completely damaged, and he will not be able to see from that eye again. We urge parents to always supervise children while using firecrackers.”
The medical team emphasized that many such avoidable eye injuries occur during festive seasons due to a lack of adult supervision and unsafe handling of fireworks.

A Reminder on Firecracker Safety

Every year, hospitals across India report numerous firecracker-related injuries, especially among children. Common injuries include burns, corneal damage, and, in severe cases, permanent blindness or loss of limbs.

Doctors recommend the following safety tips for families during festivals:

  • Always keep children under close supervision while bursting crackers.
  • Avoid relighting or touching a firecracker that fails to ignite.
  • Use protective eyewear to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies.

Medical Experts Stress Awareness

Health experts say that incidents like this underline the urgent need for public awareness about firecracker safety. Even a small mistake can lead to lifelong physical and emotional trauma for children and families.
The Beed incident serves as a powerful reminder for parents to celebrate festivals responsibly and ensure the safety of young ones.

Conclusion

This case highlights the dangers of unsupervised firecracker use. Doctors continue to urge communities to prioritize safety, celebrate responsibly, and educate children about the potential risks associated with fireworks.
