Years of Pain End with Trigeminal Neuralgia Surgery in Thane

Highland Super Speciality Hospital in Thane has successfully carried out two critical surgeries on patients suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia, a rare nerve condition often described as the “suicide disease” because of its extreme, unbearable pain.

What is Trigeminal Neuralgia?

Trigeminal Neuralgia is considered one of the most painful medical conditions known. It affects the trigeminal nerve, which branches into the forehead, cheek, and jaw, carrying sensation to these areas. Even simple actions such as brushing teeth, eating, talking, or feeling a cold breeze can trigger sudden, stabbing pain episodes.

Why Early Diagnosis Matters

Living with Trigeminal Neuralgia can be both physically and emotionally draining. However, timely treatment can improve quality of life. Anyone experiencing unexplained or severe facial pain should consult a neurologist or pain specialist without delay.

Patient Story 1: Years of Misdiagnosis

One of the patients, Tabassum Khalil Hafeez, a 46-year-old from Raigad, endured severe pain for nearly two years. Initially misdiagnosed with dental problems, she underwent multiple procedures, including a root canal and wisdom tooth extraction. Unfortunately, none of these treatments provided relief.

“The pain was so unbearable that I couldn’t eat, drink, or even talk normally. I survived on mashed food fed with a spoon, just like a child,” Hafeez recalled. An MRI later revealed nerve damage, after which she was referred to Dr. Tiwari. She finally underwent successful surgery on August 19, 2025.

Patient Story 2: Daily Life Brought to a Halt

The second case involved Namdev Patil, a 53-year-old rickshaw driver from Bhiwandi. He described his pain as “shock-like and unbearable” on the right side of his face. Despite being on medication, his symptoms persisted. Patil underwent surgery in May 2025, which brought him much-needed relief.

Conclusion

Trigeminal Neuralgia may be rare, but its impact is life-altering. The success of these two surgeries in Thane highlights the importance of specialised care and accurate diagnosis. For patients battling this condition, effective treatment can mean the difference between endless suffering and a return to normal life.
