8-Month-Old Hurt in Dowry Fight, Video Goes Viral

In a disturbing incident caught on camera, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district was seen parading his 8-month-old son upside down during a family dispute over dowry. The act, which involved holding the infant by his legs and swinging him like a toy, has triggered widespread concern among the public, authorities, and child health experts.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on July 19, 2025, during a family meeting. According to police reports, the man’s wife stated that he was pressuring her family to provide ₹2 lakh in cash and a new car as dowry. When his demands were not met, he reportedly took out his frustration by grabbing his son by the legs and spinning him through the village.
Despite the absence of an initial complaint, a video of the incident went viral, prompting police intervention.

Legal Action Taken

After reviewing the footage, the Rampur Police registered a case against the father for disturbing public peace.
Superintendent of Police, Vidyasagar Mishra, confirmed that action was underway and assured the public that such acts would not be tolerated. He also appealed to families to never use children as tools in disputes.

Medical Risks Involved

From a medical perspective, holding or swinging an infant upside down can be extremely dangerous. Infants have fragile bones, underdeveloped neck muscles, and sensitive brain structures. Such actions can lead to:

  • Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)
  • Cervical spine injuries
  • Brain haemorrhage or swelling
  • Psychological trauma
  • Impaired neurological development

Even brief episodes of physical distress can have lasting effects on a baby’s physical and emotional well-being.

Social and Ethical Concerns

This case underscores a deeper societal issue, dowry-related violence, which continues to threaten the safety of women and children across parts of India. Misuse of family conflicts to harm minors not only violates child rights laws but also disrupts the developmental environment essential for a child’s growth.

Conclusion

This shocking incident is a reminder of the urgent need for legal, medical, and social intervention in cases involving children and domestic disputes. Children must never be made victims of adult conflicts. Early reporting, community vigilance, and strict enforcement of laws are key to ensuring the safety and dignity of every child.
