Army Doctor Delivers Baby on Platform, Hero of the Day

Major Bachwala Rohit, a medical officer from Military Hospital Jhansi, was on his way home to Hyderabad. What was meant to be a routine train journey quickly turned into a critical medical situation at Jhansi Railway Station.
As he approached the lift area on the platform, Major Rohit saw a woman who had collapsed from a wheelchair. It became clear that she was in advanced labor and in urgent need of medical help. With no medical team or equipment nearby, the situation was serious.

Thinking Fast with What Was Available

Without hesitation, Major Rohit stepped in to assist. Realizing there wasn’t enough time to wait for emergency services, he used whatever he could find a towel, a small knife, and even hair clips to create a sterile environment and prepare for delivery.
Despite the non-clinical surroundings and lack of proper tools, he managed to safely deliver the baby right there on the railway platform. But the challenges were far from over.

Newborn Needed Immediate Resuscitation

After birth, the baby showed no signs of breathing. Acting quickly, Major Rohit began basic resuscitation procedures on the spot. His calm and precise efforts worked the baby responded and began to breathe, bringing a wave of relief to everyone nearby.

Dealing with Post-Delivery Complications

The mother soon developed complications related to the placenta, a condition that can cause severe bleeding if not managed quickly. Again, Major Rohit relied on his training and experience to stabilize her using simple protective measures and medical judgement, until further help arrived.

Safe Transfer to Hospital

Once both the mother and child were stable, they were taken to a local government hospital for continued care. Thanks to Major Rohit’s quick thinking and medical skill, both patients made it through a very risky situation safely.

Recognition from the Army Chief

For his selfless and courageous actions, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi officially commended Major Rohit. In a social media post, the Indian Army praised him for going beyond the call of duty and showcasing the highest standards of military service.

A photo shared by the Army shows Major Rohit gently holding the newborn at the railway station a powerful reminder of how one person’s actions can save lives.
