Worms Found in Upma! 30 Telangana Kids Sick After Meal

At least 30 students from Maganoor Zilla Parishad Government High School in Telangana’s Narayanpet district were rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after consuming a mid-day meal allegedly contaminated with worms. The students reportedly experienced stomach pain and vomiting soon after eating.

Authorities Respond Quickly

School staff and teachers immediately took the affected students to a local hospital. While most of the children are now in stable condition, medical officials noted that four students required additional attention.

Parents Raise Alarms

Several parents claimed that the food served, which included upma, contained visible worms. A student shared, “We ate upma, and later we were told worms were found in it. The authorities discarded the food after that.”

Chief Minister Orders Investigation

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called for a detailed inquiry into the incident and directed the Narayanpet district collector to take stringent action against those responsible for the lapse. The CM has also instructed officials to ensure proper medical care for the affected students.

Emphasis on Food Safety

Mr. Reddy emphasized the importance of providing nutritious and safe meals to school children and warned district authorities to prevent such incidents in the future. He has urged all district collectors to increase vigilance over mid-day meal quality.
The incident has raised concerns about food safety in government schools, prompting a review of processes to avoid similar occurrences.
