Delhi Man Finds Live Centipede in Raita at IRCTC VIP Lounge

Overview

In a shocking incident, a Delhi resident was appalled to discover a live centipede in his meal while dining at a VIP Executive Lounge managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The incident, which occurred last month, came to light when the man, Aaraynsh Singh, shared the experience on social media.

Centipede Found in Raita

Aaraynsh Singh, who was enjoying a meal at the VIP lounge, was horrified to see a live centipede floating in his raita (a yoghurt-based dish). He quickly took a photo and posted it on social media platform X, in response to a post praising the improved food quality of Indian Railways.

He sarcastically commented, “Yes, for sure, Indian Railway food quality has improved, now they are serving raita with more protein.” Singh also expressed concerns about the hygiene standards at such VIP facilities, highlighting that if this can happen in a premium lounge, regular train food might be even worse.

Passenger Warnings Ignored

Singh did not stop at just sharing the incident online. He warned other passengers present at the lounge about the contaminated food, urging them to check their meals. However, despite the uproar, passengers returned to eating the same food after expressing brief anger at the situation. He shared his disbelief over the response, stating, “People are crazy. They got upset with the administration but continued eating the same food.”

IRCTC's Response

IRCTC, upon being alerted about the incident, acknowledged that the event occurred in the previous month. A spokesperson for the corporation confirmed that appropriate action had been taken against the service provider responsible for the food at the VIP lounge. According to the spokesperson, the staff at the unit acted promptly, and a thorough inspection of the lounge was carried out. Punitive measures have been taken, and steps are in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.

IRCTC assured passengers that they are committed to maintaining food safety standards across all their facilities.
