8-Year-Old Girl Dies After Swallowing Ludo Coin Near Ullal

An eight-year-old girl died after swallowing a Ludo coin while playing at her home near Mangaluru. The child choked on the small plastic piece, which blocked her breathing. Despite quick efforts by her family and doctors, she could not be saved. The incident has raised concerns about choking risks from small toys and game pieces in children.

What happened during the incident

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at Kolya near Thokkottu in the Ullal area. The girl, Tanushka, was playing Ludo with her brother and sister at home. During the game, she accidentally put a cone-shaped Ludo coin into her mouth and swallowed it.
Soon after, she began to choke and struggled to breathe. Her mother noticed the distress immediately and, with help from neighbours, rushed her to a private hospital in Thokkottu.

Medical emergency and hospital care

Doctors provided emergency care, but the child’s breathing continued to worsen. She was then shifted to another private hospital in Deralakatte for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, doctors declared her dead.
During the post-mortem examination, doctors found the plastic Ludo coin lodged inside her lungs. Medical experts confirmed that the swallowing of a Ludo coin led to suffocation and caused her death.

Conclusion

Doctors warn that young children often explore objects with their mouths, which increases the risk of choking. Small plastic items like game coins can easily slip into the airway. When an object enters the lungs, it can block oxygen flow within minutes, making the situation life-threatening.

Health professionals advise parents to supervise children during play and keep small objects out of reach. In choking emergencies, immediate medical attention can make a critical difference.

This Incident highlights the hidden dangers of everyday toys. While board games seem harmless, loose pieces can pose serious risks to children. Doctors urge families to remain alert, especially with younger children, and seek help without delay if choking occurs.
