4,000 kg Fake Ginger Garlic Paste Seized in Raid

A major food safety operation in Hyderabad has brought serious concerns to light after officials uncovered large quantities of adulterated ginger garlic paste being supplied to restaurants and retail markets. This incident highlights growing risks to public health and the urgent need for stricter hygiene practices in food production.

Raid Exposes Unsafe Manufacturing Practices

During a recent raid, the Commissioner’s Task Force from the Khairtabad Zone, along with the H Fast Team, inspected a food unit named SKR Food Products located in Kattedan. Officials found that the unit was producing adulterated ginger garlic paste in extremely unhygienic conditions.
Moreover, the team observed that raw garlic was stored directly on the floor, while processing took place in dirty surroundings. Such conditions increase the risk of contamination and bacterial growth, which can harm consumers.

Large Quantity of Adulterated Products Seized

Authorities seized a significant amount of unsafe materials, including:

  • 4,032 kg of adulterated ginger garlic paste
  • 6,210 kg of poor quality raw ingredients
  • Equipment and related items worth around Rs 22 lakh

In addition, officials found that the manufacturer used low quality ingredients and additives such as acetic acid and xanthan gum without following proper food safety standards. These substances, when misused, may pose health risks, especially if consumed regularly.

Arrest Made, Investigation Continues

The owner of the unit, Hasan Ali Rupani, aged 55, was arrested for producing and distributing adulterated ginger garlic paste. Authorities have handed over the case and seized materials to the Mailardevpally Police for further investigation.

Repeated Violations Raise Public Health Alarm

This is not an isolated case. In fact, similar incidents have surfaced in recent months:

  • In March, officials raided Borabanda and found paste being made in violation of hygiene rules
  • Earlier in Mallepally, authorities seized over 1,000 kg of adulterated ginger garlic paste along with chemicals and equipment worth around Rs 2.2 lakh

These repeated violations indicate a pattern that could affect a large number of consumers across the city.

Health Risks Linked to Adulterated Ginger Garlic Paste

From a medical perspective, consuming contaminated or chemically altered food products can lead to several health issues, such as:

  • Food poisoning
  • Stomach infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Long term digestive problems

Additionally, poor hygiene during food preparation increases the risk of bacterial contamination, including harmful microbes that may not be visible to the naked eye.

What Consumers Should Do

Given the rising cases, experts strongly advise people to take simple precautions:

  • Prepare fresh ginger garlic paste at home whenever possible
  • Avoid buying loose or unbranded paste
  • Check packaging labels and expiry dates carefully
  • Maintain proper kitchen hygiene

Conclusion

This incident serves as an important reminder that food safety is directly linked to public health. While authorities continue to act against such violations, consumers also play a key role by making safer food choices.
Ensuring clean, home prepared food can significantly reduce the risks associated with adulterated ginger garlic paste and protect overall health.
