Mumbai Doctor Finds Human Finger in Ice Cream Cone

A Mumbai-based doctor has claimed to have found a piece of a human finger in an ice cream cone he ordered online. The doctor, a resident of Malad, reported that the incident occurred when his family ordered three ice creams – two mango-flavoured and one butterscotch – via a quick commerce platform on Wednesday night.

Discovery of the Foreign Object

The doctor’s brother, Brendan Ferrao, was eating the butterscotch ice cream when he noticed something unusual in his mouth. Upon closer inspection, he discovered a severed human finger embedded in the ice cream cone. The family promptly contacted the police, presenting the foreign object as evidence.

Police Response

Senior Police Inspector Ravi Adane from the Malad Police Station confirmed that a complaint had been received. He stated, “We received a complaint alleging that a bit of flesh was discovered in the ice cream bought online. We’ve removed the bit of flesh to investigate.” The police have filed a complaint against the ice cream firm under sections 272, 273, and 336 of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the incident.

Company's Reaction

Yummo Ice Creams, the company in question, responded to the complaint by halting production at the implicated third-party facility. A Yummo Ice Cream spokesperson stated, “We have halted production at this third-party facility, isolated the product at the factory and our warehouses, and are in the process of doing the same at the market level.”

The company emphasized its commitment to product quality and safety, expressing its intent to cooperate fully with the authorities in the investigation. “We were in the middle of dealing with the problem when it escalated, and the client filed an official police report,” the spokesperson continued.

Ongoing Investigation

The incident has raised significant concerns about food safety and manufacturing practices. Authorities are working to determine how the foreign object ended up in the ice cream and to ensure such incidents do not recur. Yummo Ice Creams assured customers that it is taking all necessary steps to rectify the situation and prevent future occurrences.
