FSSAI Suspends License After Human Finger Found in Ice Cream

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the license of an ice cream manufacturer in Pune after a Mumbai doctor allegedly found a human finger in an ice cream cone. The 26-year-old doctor complained following the disturbing discovery on Wednesday.

Immediate FSSAI Action

In response, the FSSAI’s Western Region Office inspected the manufacturer’s premises in Indapur, Pune. FSSAI confirmed that the manufacturer holds a central license, which has now been suspended pending further investigation. Samples from the seller’s premises have been collected for analysis.

State FDA and Police Involvement

The State FDA has also inspected the seller’s location in Mumbai and taken samples from the affected batch. The Malad Police are investigating the incident at Fortune Dairy to determine the date of manufacture, the production process, and any potential mishaps during production.

Tracing the Ice Cream's Supply Chain

The ice cream’s supply chain has been traced from Fortune Dairy in Indapur to various locations: a godown in Hadapsar, then to Sakinaka, Bhiwandi, and finally to a godown in Malad. From Malad, the product was delivered to Dr. Ferrao’s residence.

Yummo Halts Production

In light of the incident, Yummo, the ice cream brand, has halted production at the third-party facility and isolated the affected product batch. The forensic lab report is still awaited to provide further clarity on the situation.
