Kerala Shocker: Man Out on Bail Kills Two in Palakkad!
A tragic incident unfolded in Kerala’s Palakkad district, where a 58-year-old man, Chenthamara, was arrested for murdering two people while he was out on bail for a previous murder in 2019. The shocking crime has sparked widespread criticism of law enforcement authorities for their alleged inaction despite prior warnings from the victims’ families.
Motive Behind the Murders
Chenthamara, who was previously arrested for killing a woman named Sajitha in 2019, was released on bail with the condition that he would not enter the Nenmara panchayat area in Palakkad. However, he violated this condition and continued living in the village, where he allegedly harassed and threatened the victim’s family.
On Monday, he reportedly attacked 72-year-old Lakshmi and her 50-year-old son Sudhakaran outside their home, killing both of them. The gruesome act has left the local community in shock and anger.
Warnings Ignored by Police
According to the victims’ families, Chenthamara harboured deep resentment toward Sudhakaran’s family. He believed they were responsible for the failure of his marriage, which led to his wife and children leaving him. Reports suggest that he was influenced by a sorcerer, who convinced him that a woman with long hair had ruined his life. This belief allegedly drove him to kill Sajitha in 2019 and later attack her family members.
Police Capture the Accused
Following the killings, Chenthamara fled the crime scene and took refuge in the hills near his home. The police launched an intensive manhunt, but he managed to evade capture for over a day.
Palakkad Superintendent of Police Ajit Kumar stated that Chenthamara had experience navigating the hilly terrain, which allowed him to avoid detection. He observed police movements while hiding and only came out in search of food, at which point authorities arrested him.
Community Outrage and Police Response
The local community has strongly criticized the police for their failure to act on prior complaints, arguing that the murders could have been prevented. Many believe that stricter monitoring of individuals out on bail for serious crimes is necessary to avoid such tragedies in the future.
As the investigation continues, authorities are under pressure to reassess how they handle cases involving repeat offenders and ensure better protection for vulnerable families.
