Is Your Momo Safe? Shocking Discovery in Mohali

A momo and spring roll factory in Mohali, Punjab, recently came under scrutiny when health officials discovered a dog’s severed head in its refrigerator. This disturbing find emerged during a raid conducted by the Punjab Health Department following concerns about poor hygiene and food safety practices.

Authorities Raid Factory After Viral Video

The raid was prompted by a viral social media video that exposed the factory’s unhygienic conditions. The footage revealed workers using dirty water and rotten vegetables in food preparation, raising serious health concerns among the public. The factory, located in Mataur village, has been supplying over 100 kg of momos and spring rolls daily to Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Kalka for the past two years.

Unsanitary Practices and Spoiled Ingredients Found

Upon inspection, officials discovered large quantities of spoiled meat, a crusher machine, and reused cooking oil, all indicating severe violations of food safety standards. The presence of these unhygienic ingredients posed a major risk to consumers.

Dog’s Head Allegedly for Personal Consumption

Reports suggest that the severed dog’s head, believed to be that of a pug, was not used in food production. Instead, officials stated that factory workers, who are of Nepali origin, allegedly consumed it for personal reasons. However, to ensure public safety, the head has been sent to the Veterinary Department for further examination to determine if dog meat was used in any products.

Deception: Misleading the Victim’s Family

Following the raid, the Mohali Municipal Corporation imposed multiple fines on the factory owner. A penalty of ₹12,000 was levied for unauthorized slaughter, along with an additional ₹10,000 fine for hoarding plastic bags. Authorities have assured strict action against such unhygienic and illegal food practices.

Conclusion:

This shocking revelation has left food lovers in distress, raising concerns about food safety in local eateries and food production units. The authorities continue to investigate the matter to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure stricter enforcement of hygiene regulations.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food production practices to the relevant authorities to uphold food safety standards.
