I Sold My Kidney; Now He Wants My Daughters To Do It

A 46-year-old farm worker from Magadi Town in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district has accused a man of pressuring her to persuade her two married daughters to sell their kidneys. The woman, Geetha, alleged that the man, who previously facilitated her kidney sale for ₹2.5 lakh, is now threatening her over money repayment.

Tragic Circumstances Led to Kidney Sale

Geetha, whose husband passed away in 2013 after a prolonged illness, faced severe financial distress while raising and marrying off her daughters. With mounting microfinance debts, she found herself cornered by relentless harassment from loan recovery agents. During this challenging time, a resident, Manjunath alias Manjanna, suggested an unconventional solution.
According to Geetha, Manjunath encouraged her to sell one of her kidneys, claiming it would solve her financial troubles and that living with one kidney would not harm her health. Feeling desperate, she agreed.

The Procedure: Kidney Sale in Bengaluru

Geetha recounted the day she was taken to Bengaluru for surgery, about three years ago. Accompanied by Manjunath and a couple, she visited a hospital in Yeshwantpur. Upon arrival, the recipient’s wife met them at the hospital gates and facilitated the procedure. After the operation, Geetha received ₹2.5 lakh, which she used to settle her debts.

Harassment and Fresh Demands

Recently, Manjunath began demanding repayment of the money he had given her. When Geetha refused, he allegedly suggested that she convince her two daughters to sell their kidneys. Geetha strongly opposed the idea, leading to heated arguments. She claimed that Manjunath even shouted at her during one such confrontation.

A Pattern of Exploitation

Geetha further alleged that she is not the only victim. She stated that another woman from Magadi Town had been manipulated by Manjunath to sell her kidney and is now facing similar harassment.

Seeking Justice

Geetha’s distressing account highlights the vulnerabilities of financially struggling individuals and the exploitation they endure. Authorities are yet to confirm further details or take action regarding the allegations.

This case underscores the urgent need for better financial support systems and strict regulations to prevent illegal organ trade, ensuring vulnerable individuals do not fall prey to exploitation.
