Doctors Blamed for New Mom's Tragic Death Post-Delivery

A 26-year-old woman named Suvarna Sarode tragically died after childbirth at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli. Following a detailed investigation, two doctors—Sangeeta Patil and Minakshi Kendra were booked under an FIR for alleged negligence.

Investigation Details

Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Pawar from Vishnu Nagar Police confirmed that the FIR was registered under Sections 106(1) (Causing Death by Negligence) and 3(5) (Common Intention) of the Bharatiya Nayan Sanhita. Although no arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing. Additionally, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Commissioner, Indu Rani Jakhar, formed two committees to examine the incident.

Medical and Administrative Review

A medical committee led by the District Surgeon of Thane investigated potential medical errors, while a second committee looked into possible administrative shortcomings. KDMC Medical Officer Deepa Shukla acknowledged that a report was submitted to the police, though they have not received it officially.

Background of the Case

Suvarna Sarode, a resident of Motagaon village, was admitted to Shastri Nagar Hospital on February 11 for labor pains. Given her history of a prior cesarean section, the doctors opted for another cesarean delivery on February 12. Initially, both Suvarna and her baby were stable and transferred to the general ward.

However, Suvarna began experiencing further labor pains, and her condition rapidly worsened. Despite another surgery and continued treatment, her health deteriorated, resulting in her untimely death. Her family and relatives, devastated by the loss, protested at the hospital, demanding justice and accountability.

Conclusion

This heartbreaking incident highlights concerns about the quality of care at public healthcare facilities. As the investigation continues, there is hope that accountability will be established to prevent such incidents in the future.
