Honour Killing Shocker in Jalgaon: Doctor Shot Dead by Father
In a gut-wrenching case of honour killing from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, a 24-year-old doctor was allegedly shot dead by her father, a retired CRPF sub-inspector, during a wedding celebration. Her husband was also seriously injured in the incident that has sent shockwaves through the state.
This tragic event, which occurred in Chopda tehsil, brings to light the dark side of societal pressures and outdated honour-based beliefs.
Why Did This Happen? Love Marriage Ends in Tragedy
According to police reports, the accused father was deeply upset with his daughter Trupti’s decision to marry a man of her choice, a man from a less educated background who works as a helper in a private company. Trupti, a medical graduate from a private college in Pimpri, had eloped and married him a year ago while she was still in her final year of MBBS.
Despite being married and settled in Pune, the couple’s visit to a family wedding in Chopda cost them dearly.
“Avinash and Trupti travelled from Pune to Chopda to attend the ceremony when her father learnt about their presence… He then travelled some 50 km from Shirpur to gatecrash the ceremony and open fire,” said Jalgaon SP Maheshwar Reddy.
The Crime Scene: Shot During a Family Wedding
The incident unfolded around 10:15 pm on Saturday during a haldi ceremony. Amidst the music and celebrations, the father reportedly walked in with his revolver, aimed at his daughter, and fired, killing her on the spot and critically injuring her husband.
“Retired CRPF sub-inspector xxx(name hidden) shot dead his daughter and seriously injured her husband… After the shooting, people pinned him down and thrashed him,” said a police official.
The accused was later handed over to the police in an injured state and has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following an FIR at Chopda Police Station.
Investigation Underway: What Triggered This?
Police are still trying to determine what pushed the father to commit such a horrific act, despite the marriage having taken place a year ago. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the role of
- Family pressure
- Societal expectations
- Personal rage
Conclusion: When Honour Becomes Horror
This heartbreaking incident is a grim reminder of how honour killings continue to claim lives, even in modern, educated families. A young doctor’s life was cut short simply because she chose to follow her heart, a choice that should be hers to make.
As investigations continue, one can only hope that justice will be swift and such tragedies will serve as a wake-up call to reject outdated ideologies.
