Assam Horror: Woman Brutally Assaulted in Front of Kids

A horrific crime took place in Assam’s Cachar district, where a 30-year-old woman was raped and attacked with a chemical substance, believed to be acid, in front of her two children. The brutal assault occurred on January 22 in the Dholai police station area. Authorities have since arrested the suspect, a 28-year-old driver who lived nearby.

Background and Motive

The victim’s husband revealed that the accused had attempted to harass his wife the day before the attack. On January 21, while her husband was away, the suspect allegedly forced his way into their home and asked for her phone number, which she refused to share. The next day, the attack took place.

Locals claimed that the accused had a history of inappropriate behaviour toward married women in the area, often asking for their contact details or making offensive remarks. Despite previous complaints and local interventions, his actions reportedly continued.

Sequence of Events

According to police reports, the accused forcibly entered the victim’s home and assaulted her while her children were present. He then poured a chemical substance over her before fleeing the scene. When the victim’s husband returned home, he found her tied up with severe injuries. A formal complaint was filed the following day, January 23.

Victim’s Condition and Medical Treatment

The woman suffered nearly 70% burns due to the chemical attack and was immediately taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Medical professionals have described her condition as critical.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and tracked the suspect’s mobile phone. He was found hiding in a house about 15 kilometres from the crime scene and was arrested on January 30.

Legal Action and Further Investigation

Based on the husband’s complaint, police have filed a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of rape, house trespass, and causing harm through a poisonous substance.
While the suspect has been arrested, his wife has claimed that he is being falsely accused. She alleged that the victim’s husband had borrowed money from the accused in the past and that CCTV footage suggests he returned home around 8:30 PM on the day of the incident. However, police are still reviewing the evidence and awaiting medical reports before filing the charge sheet.

Conclusion

Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and legal action will follow based on the findings. The case has sparked concerns about women’s safety in the region, highlighting the need for stronger community vigilance and legal enforcement.
