AIIMS Raipur becomes the first government hospital to get robotic surgery facility
Summary: Good news! IIMS Raipur has become one of the first Government hospitals in Central India to get a robotic surgery facility.
The inauguration
The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai, inaugurated the first robotic surgery system facility at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) – Raipur, a government-run health institution in Central India, in September 2025.
The robotic surgery system
The robotic surgery system named “Dev Hast” was formally launched by the Chief Minister after he performed the first dry lab dissection on it. This is the first-ever robotic surgical system installation in any Government-run health institution in Central India.
The Chief Minister’s contribution to healthcare in Chhattisgarh
Robotic surgery is gradually making its presence felt in the field of medicine. It is a new dimension of healthcare that provides advanced, high-quality treatment to patients in the state of Chhattisgarh. He said this system will also be beneficial to patients who come from other states to AIIMS Raipur for treatment.
The Chief Minister has contributed towards healthcare in Chhattisgarh:
- During his tenure as Member of Parliament, he initiated the establishment of the AIIMS branch at Raipur, to provide healthcare facilities and lessen the burden on AIIMS Delhi.
- Being aware of the dearth of accommodative facilities for local patients/their relatives and patients/ relatives who come from other states to AIIMS Raipur, the construction of a fully equipped “Parijan Niwas” at AIIMS for their accommodation will be undertaken.
- When he was an MP, relatives of patients used to stay at his residence in Delhi (which they called ‘Mini AIIMS’).
- He has also made arrangements for accommodating the relatives of patients at Kunkuri Sadan in Raipur.
- A sum of Rs.12 crores from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund was sourced for the healthcare facilities in the state, during his office as MP in the years 2014 to 2019.
The Chief Minister is taking many initiatives for robust healthcare facilities in the state including the approval of five new medical colleges. As on date there are 15 medical college in the state, as opposed to the single medical college when Chattisgarh was formed.
Robotic surgery facilities will soon be made available at the Government-run Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur.
Conclusion
The robotic surgery facility is a new and is path-breaking in the field of medicine. The healthcare initiatives undertaken by the Chief Minister are commendable. The treatment of patients will be so much easier with the help of robotic surgery facility. Other states should also be inspired to undertake such progressive steps, to provide healthcare facilities to all citizens of the nation.
