A tragic incident involving the death of a 30-year-old woman after childbirth has led to the registration of a case against three doctors, including the state president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The incident occurred at a private nursing home in Shahjahanpur district, raising serious concerns over alleged medical negligence.

Woman Admitted for Delivery at Private Facility

The woman, identified as Charu Ahuja, a resident of Shahjahanpur city, was admitted to a nursing home located in the Kotwali area. The facility is run by Dr. Deepa Saxena. On Sunday night, she gave birth to a baby girl through a surgical procedure, reportedly a cesarean section.

Post-Delivery Complications and Medical Response

Shortly after delivery, Charu’s condition began to worsen. According to Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi, Dr. Saxena sought help from two other doctors—Dr. P. K. Agrawal, the president of IMA’s Uttar Pradesh chapter, and a surgeon named Dr. Pathak.

Despite their efforts, the woman could not be saved. Based on a formal complaint lodged by her family, local police have filed a case against all three doctors under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code equivalent).

Doctors’ Response to the Allegations

Dr. P. K. Agrawal responded to the allegations, stating that the patient was already in a critical condition when he was called. He further explained that upon her admission to the ICU, the woman had no heartbeat, but the medical team was able to temporarily revive her pulse.

In his statement, Dr. Agrawal mentioned that he had recommended transferring the patient to a higher medical center for advanced care. However, during this process, the woman’s condition further deteriorated. According to him, another doctor brought in by the family later checked her again and found her unresponsive.

Call for Fair Investigation

Following the registration of the case, Dr. Agrawal, along with a delegation of fellow doctors, met with SP Dwivedi. The group has requested a fair and unbiased investigation into the matter to ensure that all facts are properly examined before any conclusions are drawn.

Conclusion

This unfortunate case highlights the critical importance of timely and high-quality maternal care, especially during and after childbirth. As the investigation unfolds, it will be essential to determine whether lapses in medical judgment or system failures contributed to this tragic outcome.
