C-Section Nightmare: What Happened to These 5 Women?
Five women aged between 20 and 25 experienced delirium after undergoing a Caesarean section at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. The cases were reported on Thursday, raising concerns among medical professionals and health authorities.
Medical Response and Treatment
The affected women displayed symptoms of memory loss and confusion after the procedure. Prompt action by hospital staff ensured that none of them slipped into a pre-coma or coma state. They were immediately transferred from the general ward to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring. Fortunately, four women have since recovered and returned to the general ward, while one patient remains under observation in the ICU.
Possible Causes Under Investigation
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of these unusual reactions. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rahul Mishra stated that doctors are reviewing the medications and anaesthesia administered during the surgeries. A preliminary suspicion points to a possible response to ‘Bupivacaine,’ a commonly used drug in spinal anaesthesia. As a precautionary measure, the hospital has temporarily suspended its use while samples have been sent to Kolkata for pharmacovigilance testing.
Current Condition and Recovery
The five women are now in a stable condition, and a team of medical experts continues to monitor their recovery. Hospital authorities assure that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Conclusion
This incident has drawn attention as Rewa is the hometown of Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who also oversees the health department. Authorities are expected to take stringent measures to ensure patient safety and prevent recurrence of such medical emergencies.
Health officials remain vigilant as investigations continue, and the hospital is committed to providing the highest level of care to its patients.
