Privacy Breach: Hospital CCTV Videos Go Viral
In a shocking breach of privacy, videos of women undergoing gynecological check-ups at a private hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat, have surfaced online. The footage, captured from the hospital’s CCTV camera, was shared on social media platforms, leading to swift action by authorities.
Hospital's CCTV Footage Leaked Online
Authorities discovered that multiple videos from the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) were uploaded to YouTube and circulated via Telegram channels. A YouTube channel named ‘Megha MBBS’ was found hosting the footage and sharing Telegram links where more explicit content was reportedly available for subscribers. Over the past month, these videos have garnered more than five lakh views, raising serious concerns about digital privacy and security.
Police Investigation and Cybercrime Probe
After the disturbing discovery, the Ahmedabad Cybercrime Branch, along with Rajkot police, launched an investigation. A police team visited the hospital to gather details and determine how the breach occurred. Initial findings indicate that the videos were first shared on Telegram in September 2024 before being uploaded to YouTube on January 6, 2025. Some clips included sensitive moments, such as a woman receiving an injection.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hardik Makadia confirmed that a case has been registered under Sections 66E and 67 of the Information Technology Act. These laws address privacy violations and the distribution of obscene content online. Authorities are now working to identify those responsible and remove the footage to protect the victims’ privacy.
Government Response and Action Plan
State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and assured that strict action would be taken. The Ahmedabad Cybercrime Branch is leading the investigation, and further steps will be decided based on its findings.
The minister also highlighted the need for stricter security measures in hospitals. Government hospitals do not install CCTV cameras in patient treatment areas to maintain privacy, and private hospitals have been instructed to follow similar guidelines. The government will evaluate whether the hospital’s CCTV system was hacked or if internal negligence played a role in the breach.
Ensuring Patient Privacy in the Future
This alarming incident has raised concerns about the safety of patient’s personal data and privacy in healthcare facilities. Authorities are now emphasizing the need for hospitals to review their security policies and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive footage. The government may implement stricter regulations to ensure such breaches do not happen again.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on identifying those responsible and ensuring justice for the victims. Authorities urge citizens to report any such privacy violations to prevent further exploitation.
This case serves as a wake-up call for better data security in hospitals, reinforcing the importance of patient confidentiality and ethical surveillance practices in medical settings.
