Con-Woman Exposed! Married Multiple Men for Extortion

A 32-year-old Bangladeshi woman, who allegedly crossed the Indian border multiple times on a medical visa and engaged in fraudulent marriages to extort money, has been arrested by Bidhannagar Police.

Fraudulent Marriages and Blackmail

According to police reports, Sahana Sadique entered India at least six times in the past four years. She allegedly married four different men using fake Indian identities, without officially registering any of the marriages. Later, she accused them of domestic violence and filed cases against them in Rajarhat and New Town, with the intent to blackmail them.
Her latest marriage took place in October 2024. On Thursday, she approached the police, alleging that her husband had taken inappropriate photographs of her and was threatening to release them.

Police Investigation Unveils Her Past Crimes

While registering her complaint, officers noticed that she looked familiar. Upon conducting a background check, they discovered she had filed similar complaints. Upon further interrogation, she confessed to being involved in a fraudulent scheme to exploit her victims.

A senior police officer stated, During our investigation, we found a pattern in her activities. She repeatedly married different men and filed false domestic violence cases against them. This was a planned scheme to extort money.”

Similar Case in Odisha: A Man Duping Women Across States

A comparable case emerged in Odisha, where a 43-year-old man named Biranchi Narayan Nath was arrested in September 2024 for defrauding multiple women by posing as a government official and blackmailing them.

Nath allegedly married over a dozen women across different states, including Odisha, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. His victims were primarily working professionals, including unmarried women, widows, and divorcees.
To lure victims, Nath created fake profiles on matrimonial websites under the ‘second marriage’ category. He pretended to be a prospective groom and assumed various identities, sometimes claiming to be a railway officer, an Income Tax officer, or a customs and excise officer.

Conclusion

Both cases highlight the importance of verifying personal details before entering into marriage. Authorities advise people to exercise caution when using matrimonial platforms and to conduct thorough background checks before making any commitments.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are working to identify other possible victims in both cases.
