Illegal Gender Test Busted, 4 Arrested in Raid

In a recent operation against illegal sex determination practices, the Health Department team from Rohtak conducted a raid on an ultrasound centre in Meerut. During the raid, one doctor and three touts were arrested for their involvement in revealing the gender of an unborn child—an act strictly prohibited under Indian law.

Delhi Diagnostic Centre Also Targeted

Earlier, a similar raid took place in Delhi at Arogya Diagnostic and Dental Centre in Dwarka. Acting on a tip-off, health officials found the centre performing illegal sex determination tests. A radiologist and one tout were arrested from the facility. The operation was led by local health authorities following directions from Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata.

Law Violated: PC & PNDT Act

These actions were taken under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC and PNDT) Act, which bans any attempt to determine or disclose the sex of a fetus. This law is in place to prevent female foeticide and promote gender equality.

Meerut Raid Details

The raid in Meerut was led by Dr. Vishvjeet Rathee, District Nodal Officer for the PC-PNDT Act. The team seized Rs 26,800 from the clinic and immediately sealed the premises. An FIR has been lodged against the radiologist and the three others involved.
According to officials, a decoy patient was used to catch the accused red-handed. The doctor performed an ultrasound and revealed the sex of the fetus without completing the mandatory Form-F, which is required by law for all such procedures.

Strict Action Promised

Speaking to the press, Dr. Ramesh Chander, Civil Surgeon of Rohtak, confirmed the illegal activity and said strong legal action will be taken. Dr. Vishvjeet Rathee also stressed that the department is committed to dismantling all such illegal networks and will not tolerate violations.

Who Was Involved in the Operation

Officials present during the Meerut raid included:

  • Dr. Vishvjeet Rathee (Nodal Officer, PC-PNDT)
  • SMO Sanjeev Malik
  • ASMO Vishal Chaudhary
  • Dr. Vikas, Health Officer Mohit Gill
  • Health workers Sanjeet Singh, Rajesh Kumar, and Sushil Kumar
  • Local police team

Conclusion

These raids reflect the government’s strong stance against illegal sex determination. Authorities urge the public to report any such activities, ensuring that the law is upheld and gender-based discrimination is tackled at its roots.
