Ahmedabad Woman Falls Ill After Lizard Found in Ice Cream

An ordinary ice cream treat turned into a distressing health scare for a woman in Ahmedabad after she allegedly discovered pieces of a dead lizard in her cone. The shocking incident has led to health concerns, official action, and scrutiny of both the ice cream vendor and the manufacturing company.

A Disturbing Discovery

The incident took place in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar area when the woman purchased four cones of Havmor ice cream from Mahalaxmi Corner, a local shop.

While enjoying the ice cream with her children, she noticed something unusual inside one of the cones. Upon closer look, she was horrified to find what appeared to be part of a lizard’s tail mixed into the remaining ice cream.

In a video shared online, the woman expressed her disgust and fear:

“I was halfway through when I saw this. I have been vomiting ever since. Thankfully, my children didn’t eat it. If anything serious happens, we will file a case against the company. I urge people to check their food before eating.”

Health Complications

Shortly after consuming the contaminated ice cream, the woman experienced severe vomiting and stomach pain. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is still under medical observation, local officials confirmed.

Authorities Step In

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) food safety team launched an immediate investigation.

  • When they inspected Mahalaxmi Corner, they discovered that the shop was operating without a valid food safety license — a serious violation under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
  • The shop has since been sealed and operations suspended.

Manufacturer Under Scrutiny

The contaminated cone was traced back to a batch produced by Havmor Ice Cream Pvt Ltd’s facility in Naroda GIDC Phase 1.

  • Food officials collected samples from the same batch and sent them for laboratory testing.
  • As a precaution, the company has been ordered to recall the entire batch from the market.

Penalty and Next Steps

Havmor Ice Cream has been fined ₹50,000 for violations of food safety norms.
Although the company has not yet released an official statement, they assured officials that strict action will be taken if manufacturing negligence is confirmed. A full safety audit of the production unit is also being considered.

Conclusion

This unsettling incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety, both at the production and retail levels.

Consumers are advised to:

  • Always check packaged food before consumption.
  • Report any irregularities immediately to local food safety authorities.
  • Demand accountability from both shops and brands for food safety standards.
