Tragic Loss: IIT-Kanpur Mourns Dean's Sudden Death Due to Cardiac Arrest During Alumni Meet

Professor Sameer Khandekar, the Dean of student welfare and head of the mechanical engineering department at IIT-Kanpur, tragically passed away during his address at the alumni meet on Friday evening, succumbing to cardiac arrest.

His final words, “Take care of your health…,” delivered on the health-related topic, preceded his collapse on the stage. Rushed to Laxmipat Singhania Institute of Cardiology, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Sources from IIT-Kanpur reveal that Professor Khandekar has been grappling with cardiac health issues since 2019.

Cardiologist Dr Neeraj Kumar reported that the professor had already passed away by the time he reached the hospital, succumbing to either cardiac arrest or cardiac block.

Prof S Ganesh, the director of IIT-K, expressed the institute’s deep sorrow for the loss of “a humble soul.”

Survived by his parents, wife Pradyanya, and their son, Professor Khandekar is remembered by the IIT fraternity and this news has again shocked the nation.
