Doctor Extorted ₹10K While Setting Up Clinic in Mumbai

Summary:A Mumbai-based woman doctor was allegedly threatened and extorted for ₹10,000 by individuals claiming to be from a labour union while setting up her new clinic in Borivali. The police have registered an FIR, and the investigation is ongoing.

Intimidation During Clinic Setup: What Really Happened?

In a disturbing case of extortion and threats, a woman doctor from Kandivali has reported being targeted while setting up her new clinic in Borivali (West), Mumbai. According to an FIR filed at the Borivali police station, the doctor alleges that she was forced to pay ₹10,000 by individuals who falsely claimed to represent the Mathadi Workers’ Union.

The incident took place around 1 PM on Tuesday at her self-owned clinic in the Green Woods building, Shimpoli, Borivali. She wasn’t present at the site during the time of the incident, but her staff faced the heat.

Work Halted, Threats Made

As per the FIR, an unidentified man arrived at the clinic and disrupted the ongoing furniture and interior setup work. He allegedly threatened the labourers, stating that the work could not proceed unless ₹10,000 was paid in the name of the Mathadi Workers’ Union.

Things escalated quickly when another man reportedly contacted the doctor directly. He repeated the demand and warned that if the payment was not made, her clinic operations would be forcibly shut down and the premises vandalised.

Doctor Speaks Out

Speaking to the Free Press Journal, the doctor expressed her distress:

“I wasn’t present when the incident occurred and do not know these individuals. The property is self-owned, and this is the first time something like this has happened.”

FIR Registered, Police Investigating

Based on her complaint, the Borivali police have registered an FIR against two unidentified individuals. The case has been filed under Sections 308(4), 333, 352, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Authorities have assured that further investigation is ongoing.

If you or someone you know faces such intimidation, do not hesitate to report it to the nearest police station. Your courage could prevent further unlawful acts.
