Court Rejects Bail for Doctors in Illegal Abortion Case

Gwalior court has denied anticipatory bail to BJP district vice president Dr. Manu Sharma and her husband, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, a Block Medical Officer (BMO), in connection with the rape and illegal abortion of a nursing student from Morena. Special Judge Vivek Agarwal rejected their bail plea, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations against them.

Allegations Against the Accused

The nursing student, originally from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, filed a complaint at Hazira police station in Gwalior. She alleged that Pushpendra Rawat, a man she befriended, lured her into a relationship and later exploited her.

According to the victim, on March 28, 2024, Pushpendra took her to a room in Char Shahar Ka Naka, where he sexually assaulted her multiple times. He also recorded videos of the assaults and used them to blackmail and continue exploiting her.

Forced Abortion at KD Hospital

When the victim discovered she was pregnant, she confronted Pushpendra and asked him to marry her. However, he stopped communicating with her. Seeking help, she turned to Pushpendra’s brother-in-law, Paan Singh, but instead of helping, he also sexually assaulted her in Joura.
Later, when Pushpendra’s sister, Reena, and brother, Arvind Rawat, learned about the pregnancy, they allegedly took her to KD Hospital, where Dr. Manu Sharma and Dr. Rajesh Sharma performed an abortion against her will. When she resisted, the doctors reportedly threatened her, saying they would ensure she failed her nursing exams if she revealed the incident.

Conclusion

After the incident, the victim filed a case against Pushpendra’s relatives, Reena and Arvind Rawat. She also lodged a separate complaint against the doctor couple. However, all the accused are currently absconding, and police investigations are ongoing to locate them.
