Case Study: The Importance of Timely Allopathic Treatment in Advanced Cancer

Background

A 65-year-old man was diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer, a type of cancer affecting the food pipe. Instead of opting for chemotherapy or radiotherapy, he chose Ayurvedic treatments. While Ayurveda can be helpful for overall health and prevention, this case highlights the need for timely allopathic intervention in certain situations.

What was Done

A PET-CT scan, a special imaging test, was done to check the current state of his cancer. This scan uses a small amount of radioactive sugar to detect cancer cells and provides detailed body images.

Findings:

  1. Primary Tumor:
    • A large, irregular growth was found in the middle and lower part of the food pipe. This growth was causing a partial blockage, making it difficult for food to pass through.
    • The tumour had spread close to the main artery, showing how aggressive it had become.
  2. Spread to Lymph Nodes:
    • The cancer had spread to several lymph nodes in the chest and abdomen. These small, bean-shaped structures are part of the body’s immune system.
    • The largest affected lymph nodes were found near the stomach and major blood vessels.
  3. No Spread to Other Organs:
    • Thankfully, no cancer was detected in the lungs, liver, kidneys, or other major organs.

Why This Matters

This case shows how cancer can become more severe if not treated with appropriate therapies like chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Ayurvedic treatments can play a role in improving general health and prevention, but they are not substitutes for proven cancer treatments. The patient’s choice to avoid allopathic treatment allowed the disease to progress, making it harder to control.

Key Takeaway

If you or a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, consult a qualified oncologist (cancer specialist). Modern medical treatments can help control the disease and improve survival rates. Complementary therapies like Ayurveda can support overall well-being but should not replace medical treatments when dealing with serious conditions like cancer.

The patient was convinced that chemotherapy and radiotherapy were full of side effects and provided no benefits. As a result, the patient underwent Ayurvedic treatments for more than six months. However, after this period, the patient did not improve; instead, their condition deteriorated, and the cancer spread further. The patient is now unable to swallow and faces many other morbidities.”  Dr Suketu Dave

A Doctor’s Appeal

As doctors, we urge everyone to prioritize timely medical care for serious illnesses. Prevention is vital, and Ayurveda has its place in maintaining health. However, advanced diseases like cancer require the precision and effectiveness of allopathic treatments to ensure the best outcomes. Let’s work together to combine the strengths of both approaches for better health and longer lives.

“Such Ayurvedic practitioners are playing with the lives of innocent patients by misguiding them and making money by deceiving them, rather than showing the right path. There are no evidence-based randomized controlled trials worldwide supporting the use of Ayurvedic treatments for oesophagal carcinoma or any other cancers. Despite this, false claims continue to be spread, and innocent patients continue to suffer.” Dr Suketu Dave

I am disheartened to see that these irrational practitioners are not being held accountable by the courts or the government. This is both unethical and a clear case of malpractice. Ultimately, it is the patients who suffer. .

An Appeal to the Public

Make informed decisions regarding serious illnesses like cancer. Consult with medical professionals to understand all available treatment options and choose the best path for your health.
