Horrific Killing in Delhi Over Rs 400 Fare – Full Story

In northeast Delhi’s Sonia Vihar, a 26-year-old cab driver, Sandeep, lost his life in a brutal attack over a fare dispute of Rs 400. The altercation involved five individuals, including a minor. The Delhi Police reported the incident on December 18, revealing that the driver was attacked after three passengers refused to pay their taxi fare and called two others to join them.

How the Incident Unfolded

Sandeep, a resident of Jahangirpuri, picked up three passengers from Noida late on December 17. Upon reaching Second Pushta in Sonia Vihar, the passengers refused to pay the agreed fare of Rs 400, which led to an argument. The trio called two friends for support, escalating the situation.

During the altercation, one of the attackers stabbed Sandeep in the head and stomach. Police personnel stationed at the nearby Nanaksar picket responded promptly after being informed at 1:15 AM Sandeep was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation and Arrests

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Rakesh Paweriya, stated that CCTV footage was crucial in identifying the cab’s route and the location of the crime. The cab was tracked from Khajoori Chowk to A Block, Sonia Vihar.

The investigation led to the arrest of Prateek, a resident of Kondli, who had booked the cab. He disclosed that he and his friends Deepanshu (alias Ashu), Rahul, Mayank, Nikhil, and a minor had been drinking before booking the cab for three of the group to return home to Sonia Vihar.

Sequence of Events According to Police

Prateek revealed that the three passengers—Deepanshu, Rahul, and Mayank—refused to pay the fare upon arrival. The argument turned physical, and the trio called Nikhil and the minor for support. Nikhil eventually stabbed the cab driver.

Police have since arrested Deepanshu, who reportedly has a previous criminal record involving attempted murder. A juvenile has also been apprehended, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects: Mayank, Rahul, and Nikhil.

A Community Shocked

This incident highlights the grave consequences of disputes escalating into violence. As the investigation progresses, the authorities are working to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice. Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of Sandeep, who was simply doing his job.

Call for Justice

The Delhi Police’s swift action has been commendable, but the incident underscores the need for better public awareness and stricter measures to prevent such tragedies. As the hunt for the remaining suspects continues, the hope for justice remains strong.

Conclusion

The senseless killing of Sandeep over a minor fare dispute serves as a grim reminder of the value of human life. It calls for collective efforts to foster understanding and prevent violence in everyday situations.
