Children's Health Deteriorates After Antibiotics in Neemuch

Introduction

At least 19 children admitted to the pediatric ward of Neemuch District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh experienced a sudden decline in their health on Saturday after being administered antibiotic injections, according to their families. Hospital officials later confirmed that the children’s conditions were stable, and an investigation had been initiated to determine the cause of the reaction.

Health Scare in Pediatric Ward

The civil surgeon of the hospital, Dr. Mahendra Patil, confirmed that the health of some children, aged between two and four years, worsened shortly after receiving an antibiotic injection. He stated, “The children were given the antibiotic injection R Ceftriaxone IP. It is being investigated whether the deterioration in their health was directly related to the injection or caused by other factors.”

Parents Protest and Officials Intervene

Following the incident, worried family members staged a protest at the hospital. In response, senior officials, including Additional District Collector Lakshmi Gamad and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mamta Khede, rushed to the hospital to address the concerns of the parents and ensure the children’s safety.

Some parents moved their children to private hospitals, while others remained in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further monitoring.

Investigation Launched

Dr. Patil mentioned that the injection had been sent for testing to determine whether it was responsible for the children’s adverse reactions. The health of all affected children is reportedly back to normal.

Previous Concerns Over Medication Quality

This incident comes shortly after the Madhya Pradesh government halted the use of certain batches of injections from nine manufacturers due to quality concerns in August. The MP Public Health Services Corporation had previously advised the state’s Medical Education and Health departments to stop using these batches.
