Surgeon Performs Own Vasectomy and Shares Viral Video Online

A Taiwanese surgeon, Chen Wei-nong, has taken social media by storm after performing a vasectomy on himself and sharing the entire process online. The video, initially intended for educational purposes, has gained significant traction, garnering around 2 million views and 61,000 likes on Instagram.

A Bold Gesture of Love

Chen decided to undergo the procedure as a “gift” for his wife, who did not want more children. By performing the surgery himself, he aimed to minimize potential risks and ensure the procedure was done precisely

The Procedure: A Step-by-Step Explanation

In the video, shared on Instagram and Facebook, Chen meticulously explained the process in 11 steps. He began by administering local anesthesia and proceeded to perform the surgery while narrating the steps for viewers.
Although a typical vasectomy usually takes around 15 minutes, the self-performed procedure lasted an hour due to the unique challenges of operating on himself.

Challenges and Pain During the Surgery

The surgeon candidly described the difficulties he faced during the procedure. “It is really painful when you touch the vas deferens, and it feels strange to sew yourself up,” he admitted. Despite the physical and psychological challenges, he successfully completed the surgery.
Chen also reassured viewers about his health, stating he felt fine the next morning.

Mixed Reactions from Netizens

The video sparked a wave of reactions online. While some users admired his courage, others expressed concern about the risks of self-surgery.
One user humorously commented, “Doctors believe in the patient’s technique.” Another questioned the need for self-surgery, asking, “Why not let another doctor perform the procedure?”
Some highlighted the psychological toll of self-surgery, with one user writing, “The psychological pressure is immense—it’s too scary to perform surgery on yourself.”

A Viral Sensation with a Strong Message

Chen Wei-nong’s bold act has not only captured the attention of millions but also sparked conversations about the lengths one might go to for their loved ones. While his actions are undoubtedly risky, his dedication to both his family and his profession is undeniable.
This viral video serves as a unique example of love, commitment, and the human ability to push boundaries.
