Man Tricks Girlfriend Into Abortion With Sweet Dish
A 28-year-old woman from Pune has filed a police complaint alleging that her partner, identified as Adarsh Valmik Meshram, deceived her into consuming an abortion pill without her knowledge. The incident reportedly occurred after the woman became pregnant during their relationship.
According to her statement, the accused had initially promised marriage and engaged in a long-term physical relationship with her. This promise reportedly created a sense of emotional and psychological trust, which ultimately influenced her decisions during the relationship.
Misuse of Medication
The woman claimed that when she informed Meshram about her pregnancy, he reacted by secretly administering an abortion pill. She stated that he mixed the medication into a traditional Indian sweet dish called rabadi, which she consumed without knowing its contents.
Shortly afterwards, she suffered a miscarriage. Medical evaluation confirmed the termination of pregnancy, allegedly caused by the ingested pill. It is unclear at this stage what specific drug was used, but most medical abortion pills typically include mifepristone or misoprostol, which require a prescription and must be used under medical supervision.
Emotional and Legal Fallout
Upon learning the truth, the woman confronted Meshram. However, she alleged that he not only denied further involvement but also refused to marry her, leaving her emotionally traumatised.
Such unauthorised administration of abortion medication without the patient’s informed consent is considered a serious offence under Indian law. It carries legal consequences under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, as well as sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to assault, cheating, and criminal negligence.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Police have taken the accused into custody. A senior inspector confirmed that Meshram was presented in court and remains under judicial investigation.
Authorities are currently verifying medical records, gathering witness statements, and analysing forensic evidence to support the charges. Further details may emerge as the inquiry progresses.
Medical and Ethical Implications
This case raises significant medical and ethical concerns. Administering abortion pills without a woman’s knowledge not only violates her reproductive rights but also puts her physical and mental health at risk. Self-administered or non-consensual abortions can lead to serious complications such as severe bleeding, infection, and psychological trauma.
Experts stress the importance of informed consent, especially in reproductive healthcare. Any termination of pregnancy must be carried out in a safe, legal, and ethical manner under the supervision of qualified healthcare providers.
Conclusion
This disturbing incident highlights the need for greater awareness of women’s health rights and the legal protections available to them. Authorities continue to investigate the matter to ensure justice is served and such violations are appropriately addressed.
