Man Dies After Collapsing at Gym in Chinchwad

A heart attack during a gym workout tragically claimed the life of a 39-year-old man in Chinchwad on Friday morning. Milind Kulkarni, a resident of Chinchwad and a regular fitness enthusiast, collapsed while exercising at Nitrro Gym and was later declared dead.

Sudden Collapse While Exercising

The incident took place around 7:15 a.m. According to gym staff, Kulkarni was midway through his workout routine when he began feeling dizzy. He was reportedly walking towards the water cooler when he suddenly collapsed. Fellow gym members acted quickly and rushed him to a nearby private hospital. From there, he was transferred to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH), Pimpri. Sadly, doctors at YCMH confirmed that he was brought in dead.

Possible Heart Attack Behind the Incident

Dr. Rajendra Wable, Dean of YCMH, stated that an autopsy had been performed. “Preliminary results suggest that the cause of death was a heart attack during a gym workout. The deceased had significant heart blockages ranging between 60% to 70% which were likely undiagnosed,” he explained. Though Kulkarni had no known history of heart issues, the sudden cardiac event turned out to be fatal.

No Foul Play Suspected

Chinchwad Police confirmed that no external injuries or suspicious circumstances were found. Senior Inspector Ankush Bangar from Chinchwad Police Station said, “This appears to be a natural death. Since there is no complaint, no legal case has been registered.”

Insights from the Gym

Santosh Adagle, the manager of Nitrro Gym, shared that Kulkarni was a consistent and experienced gym-goer. “He knew his workout routines well and visited regularly,” Adagle mentioned.

Conclusion

This tragic incident highlights the hidden risks of underlying heart conditions, especially during intense physical activity. A heart attack during a gym workout may not always show warning signs beforehand. Therefore, regular heart health screenings are vital, particularly for individuals over 35, even if they appear physically fit..

While fitness plays a crucial role in overall health, it’s equally important to ensure your heart is strong enough for strenuous exercise. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder that undetected cardiac issues can be life-threatening, and regular health check-ups should never be overlooked.

If you’re above 30 and actively working out, consult your doctor about cardiac screening options. Early detection can save lives.
