Love, Abuse, and Death: A Teen’s Painful Story
A 17-year-old girl who was eight months pregnant died after falling from the third floor of a house in Pooth Khurd, northwest Delhi. The tragic event occurred on July 19, around noon, while the girl was staying at her elder sister’s home.
According to police, she fell from the terrace and was critically injured. Though she was initially taken to a nearby doctor and then referred to Bhagwati Hospital in Rohini, she sadly passed away during treatment.
Troubled Relationship and Allegations of Abuse
The girl had been living in a live-in relationship with a man named Pinku, who worked as a daily-wage labourer. Police sources say their relationship was unstable, with frequent fights and allegations of physical and emotional abuse.
The girl’s elder sister told police that Pinku had been forcing the minor to live with him and had reportedly engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with her. These claims point toward a pattern of coercion and exploitation.
Family Intervention and Return to Delhi
At one point, the girl’s family had taken her back to their village in Bihar to protect her. However, Pinku reportedly followed her there, persuaded the family to let her return, and brought her back to Delhi. Despite this, the relationship remained highly strained, and the abuse allegedly continued
Events on the Day of the Incident
On the morning of the incident, the girl was alone at her sister’s home while her sister was at work in a nearby factory. Around noon, the girl reportedly went to the terrace and jumped off. The motive behind the fall is being investigated, but police are treating it as a suspected suicide influenced by prolonged abuse.
Medical and Legal Response
Doctors at Bhagwati Hospital tried to save her, but due to the serious nature of her injuries, she was declared dead during treatment. The post-mortem findings, along with her sister’s testimony, have led to a formal investigation.
Police have registered a case against Pinku under:
- Section 108 (abetment of suicide)
- Section 64(1) (rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita)
- Section 6 POCSO Act
Authorities are currently working to locate and arrest the accused, who is reportedly missing.
Conclusion
This case highlights the urgent need for mental health support, especially for vulnerable adolescents facing abuse. Pregnant teens are at a higher risk of emotional distress, and when paired with physical violence, the risk of self-harm or suicide increases significantly.
It also brings attention to the importance of timely intervention, support systems for young women, and stronger enforcement of protective laws like POCSO.
