Fish Bone Pops Out of Woman’s Neck After 2 Weeks

A Thai woman’s simple meal turned into a shocking medical story after a fish bone she unknowingly swallowed ended up piercing through the skin of her neck two weeks later. The incident has now gone viral, raising awareness about the hidden dangers of swallowing sharp food particles.

It All Started with a Bowl of Soup

Sang Lan, a resident of Thailand, was enjoying homemade fish soup when she accidentally swallowed a small bone. She immediately felt a sharp pain in her throat. Thinking it was minor, she tried common home remedies like swallowing rice and bread crusts hoping the bone would go down naturally.

X-Ray Shows Nothing

When the pain didn’t improve, Sang went to a nearby hospital. Doctors performed an X-ray, but no foreign object was visible on the X-ray. She was told it was likely nothing serious and was sent home.
At that point, she and her husband assumed the bone had passed or dissolved and decided to wait for the discomfort to fade.

Two Weeks Later: New Symptoms Appear

Instead of healing, Sang noticed swelling on the side of her neck, along with persistent soreness. Worried that it might be a thyroid problem, she visited the hospital again. A second X-ray also showed no foreign object, and she was prescribed painkillers and sent home once more.

A Life Lesson

After the traumatic ordeal, Sang shared that she may never eat fish again. Her husband, Suriyan Buppa-art, posted about the experience on Facebook to warn others about the risks of fish bones. His post quickly gained attention and has since gone viral on social media.

Why Didn’t the X-rays Show the Bone?

Fish bones are very thin and low in calcium, making them difficult to detect on standard X-rays. In rare cases like this, they may migrate through soft tissue instead of staying in the digestive tract, leading to delayed symptoms and unusual complications.

Conclusion

  • Swallowed fish bones can cause delayed complications, even if early scans appear normal.
  • If pain persists after swallowing something sharp, don’t ignore it and request further imaging or specialist care.
  • CT scans may be more effective than X-rays in detecting small or hidden objects.
  • Swelling, soreness, or a sharp feeling under the skin could indicate a migrating foreign object.

This case reminds us that even a small fishbone can lead to big problems if left undetected. Always take such incidents seriously and seek prompt medical care if symptoms persist.
