Employee Killed After Boss Sits on Her at Work

A 24-year-old woman working at a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles has died after suffering a serious brain injury caused by a violent altercation with her supervisor. The tragic event occurred on June 24, 2025, while she was on duty during a daytime shift.

What Happened

According to family members and early reports, an argument broke out between the young employee identified as Jessica McLaughlin and her manager. During the confrontation, the manager allegedly became physically aggressive. It is reported that she pulled Jessica’s hair and then sat on her upper body, applying enough pressure to prevent normal breathing.
As a result, Jessica collapsed at the scene and was unresponsive. Emergency medical services were called immediately, and she was rushed to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

Brain Death Due to Lack of Oxygen

Doctors determined that Jessica had experienced a prolonged period of oxygen deprivation, a condition known medically as hypoxia. This lack of oxygen severely damaged her brain, leading to a diagnosis of brain death, a condition where brain activity permanently stops and cannot be reversed.

Despite being placed on life support, Jessica never regained consciousness. Her family, after several days of difficult discussions with doctors, decided to discontinue life-sustaining treatment. Jessica passed away peacefully in the hospital on July 2, 2025.

Ongoing Police Investigation

The manager believed to be responsible fled the scene after the assault. Authorities also suspect she tried to erase security camera footage from the store’s recording system. As of now, the suspect remains unidentified and at large, and law enforcement officials are continuing the search. The investigation remains active.

Company Response

The 7-Eleven corporation released a brief statement expressing sympathy for the family and confirmed that the accused manager has been terminated from her position. They also stated that they are cooperating fully with police in the ongoing investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and are supporting authorities in every way we can,” the statement read.

Family Tribute

Jessica’s family described her as a deeply caring and nonjudgmental person who always made others feel welcome and supported. Her brother shared in a public message that she had a “beautiful and gentle spirit”, and her loss has left a deep emotional void for those who loved her.

Conclusion

This deeply upsetting incident highlights the potentially fatal consequences of unchecked workplace violence. It also raises important concerns about employee safety, conflict resolution, and emergency medical response. As Jessica’s family mourns, the wider community hopes for swift justice and greater workplace protections to prevent such tragedies in the future.
