Class 10 Boy Ends Life After PUBG Addiction in Telangana

A heartbreaking case of PUBG addiction has come to light in Telangana’s Nirmal district. A Class 10 student, identified as Beti Rishendra, ended his life after his parents confiscated his phone to stop his excessive gaming. Officials reported that the teenager had become heavily dependent on the online game PUBG, spending more than 10 hours a day playing it.

Struggle Between Family and Addiction

Rishendra had refused to attend school, claiming that classes cut into his gaming hours. Concerned about his mental health, his parents sought help from both a psychiatrist and a neurosurgeon. However, despite counselling sessions, the boy reportedly remained defiant and even threatened the doctor.
When his parents finally took away his phone three days before the incident, he was unable to cope without the game. Sadly, this led him to die by suicide.

Rise of PUBG Addiction Cases in India

This is not the first incident highlighting the dangers of PUBG addiction. Earlier this year, three teenagers tragically lost their lives in Bihar’s West Champaran district after being struck by a train. They were so engrossed in the game while wearing earphones that they did not notice the train approaching.
In another concerning case, a cab driver in Hyderabad was filmed playing PUBG while driving. The video showed him struggling to control the vehicle as he attempted to balance his focus between the road and the mobile game.

Understanding the Health Impact of Gaming Addiction

Health experts warn that compulsive gaming, particularly when it reaches the level of PUBG addiction, can severely affect mental well-being. Prolonged gaming hours often lead to isolation, sleep disturbances, irritability, and in extreme cases, harmful behaviours or thoughts of self-harm.

Psychiatrists emphasise the importance of early intervention, open communication between parents and children, and professional counselling to help manage such dependencies.

Conclusion

While online games can be a source of entertainment, excessive use without moderation can lead to serious health risks. Families, schools, and communities must work together to raise awareness about responsible gaming habits and provide support systems for those struggling with gaming addiction.
