Actor Fish Venkat Loses Life to Kidney Complications
Telugu cinema has lost one of its most recognizable faces. Veteran actor and comedian Fish Venkat, known off-screen as Venkat Raj, passed away on Friday at the age of 53 due to severe kidney failure. He had been undergoing treatment in a Hyderabad hospital in the final days of his life.
Battling Kidney Failure
Venkat’s health had taken a serious turn recently, with his kidney function deteriorating rapidly. He was admitted to the ICU, where doctors made it clear that a kidney transplant was the only option to save him. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the medical team, his condition worsened, and he couldn’t survive the complications that come with end-stage renal disease.
A Family's Plea and a Cruel Hoax
Earlier this month, Venkat’s daughter Sravanthi spoke publicly about the family’s struggle to manage the overwhelming medical expenses. The cost of treatment and a possible transplant was estimated to be more than ₹50 lakh.
In a moment that added to their distress, the family received a call from someone claiming to represent actor Prabhas, offering to pay for the transplant. That spark of hope was short-lived; the call turned out to be a hoax. “We’ve been answering every call, hoping someone might help,” a family member shared. “But that one was fake. There has been no contact from Prabhas or his team.”
A Beloved Presence on Screen
Fish Venkat was a familiar and cherished presence in Telugu films, known for his impeccable comic timing and unique Telangana accent. Over the years, he carved out a space for himself in the industry, often playing quirky or villainous side characters who left a mark.
Some of his memorable films include Bunny, Adhurs, Dhee, and Mirapakay. In recent years, he embraced the digital shift, featuring in OTT projects like Coffee with a Killer on Aha. His roles in movies like Maa Vintha Gaadha Vinuma and DJ Tillu resonated with younger audiences, proving his timeless appeal.
A Deep Loss to the Industry
Though rarely in the spotlight as a lead, Venkat’s performances had a way of sticking with viewers. He brought life to even the smallest of roles, and his presence on screen was always felt. As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from fans, fellow actors, and filmmakers who remembered him not just as a performer but as a kind and spirited human being.
A Reminder on Kidney Health
Venkat’s tragic end brings to light the urgent need for more awareness around kidney health. Chronic kidney disease can go unnoticed until it’s dangerously advanced. In his case, the delay in receiving a transplant, compounded by financial and logistical struggles, highlights the gaps in our healthcare support system.
Remembering Fish Venkat
For over two decades, Fish Venkat made us laugh, think, and sometimes even cry with his unforgettable roles. His legacy will live on in the countless films he was part of and in the hearts of those who loved his work. As we remember him, let’s also remember the countless others fighting silent health battles, and the importance of compassion and real support in those crucial moments.
Rest in peace, Venkat Raj. You made your mark, and you’ll be deeply missed.
