No Degree, No License, Still Ran a Clinic for Years
A 62-year-old woman was recently arrested in Padalur, located in the Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu, for running a clinic without holding any recognised medical qualifications. Authorities say she had been treating patients and prescribing medicines illegally for several years.
Case Details
The woman, identified as V. Muthulakshmi, is a resident of Murugoor in the Thuraiyur area. Officials confirmed that she had studied only up to Class 12 and had no formal medical education or license to practice medicine. Despite this, she had been operating a clinic in a rented house on Irur Road in Alathur taluk.
Health Officials Acted on a Tip-off
The incident came to light when health department officials received information about the unlicensed clinic. A team led by Dr. K. Marimuthu, the Joint Director of Health Services in Perambalur, inspected the premises. During the visit, it was confirmed that Muthulakshmi had been posing as a doctor and offering treatment to people in nearby rural areas.
Police Take Legal Action
Following the inspection, Dr. Marimuthu filed a formal complaint with the Padalur police. Muthulakshmi was subsequently arrested, and the clinic was sealed. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the full extent of her activities and whether anyone else was involved.
Conclusion
Health officials are urging the public to seek medical care only from licensed practitioners. Receiving treatment from unqualified individuals can lead to serious health risks and complications.
