What makes these celebrities so successful? Or rather, what makes a person successful in life? The answer is hard work, dedication, passion, positivity, punctuality, mindfulness, self-care, motivation, honesty and a host of fundamental habits.

Let us see what these life-changing habits are.

There are many famous personalities who are early risers so that they can have an early start to their days to contemplate and pack in as much work as possible. Examples are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Cricketer Virat Kohli, Badminton player P V Sindhu, Actress Deepika Padukone, HH Dalai Lama, Actor Rajnikant, Ex-President of USA Barack Obama, Entrepreneur Ratan Tata, CEO Tesla Elon Musk, Oracle of Omaha Warren Buffett, CEO Apple Tim Cook, CEO Google Sundar Pichai, Co-Founder Twitter Jack Dorsey, Co-Founder /CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

  1. Punctuality: Time waits for no one, hence it is imperative that we utilize our time wisely and value it. Film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar are a couple of examples of such sticklers of punctuality. They always reach their film sets on time or sometimes, even before time. This is a quality that each of us should imbibe, to be punctual and value time.
  2. Wellness: It is necessary for us to be healthy and take all measures required to be so. Be it exercise or food habits. Celebrities like Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and Malaika Arora propagate the practice of Yoga and healthy food consumption for a healthy body and mind. Practising Yoga and meditation is important for our physical and mental wellness. Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, keeps down her stress levels and increases mindfulness. Being aware of our own feelings and needs makes us happier and healthier and we can work to the best of our abilities.
  3. No alcohol: Abstinence from alcohol is a sign of a person who cares for his health. Film actors John Abraham and Siddharth Malhotra teach us that saying No to Alcohol is cool and we can still be famous and loved by not consuming alcohol.
  4. Early risers: The early bird catches the worm. Waking up early each morning is another trait that we all should adopt. Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and film star Akshay Kumar advocate the importance of waking up early. Doing so makes us energetic and we can plan our day ahead and accomplish all our tasks of the day.
  5. Organised: We need to plan our day and organize it so that we can productively work. Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas always keeps herself and her belongings organized. This is another very good trait that we should adopt to think clearly, focus and complete our tasks on time.
  6. Digital detox: It is imperative that we follow digital detox as this helps us to be in touch with ourselves and we can use our brain more. Actress Vidya Balan does have a mobile phone, but she seldom uses it. Real-time relationships are more important than digital ones and it is good not to be a slave of gadgets.
  7. Cleanliness: Cleanliness is very necessary in our lives. Actresses Preity Zinta and Deepika Padukone are very particular about cleanliness in their homes and the hotels where they reside while travelling for work or enjoyment.
  8. Physical fitness: Maintaining physical fitness is important, given the pressure-driven lives we lead. Actor Salman Khan advocates physical fitness by riding his bicycle, as much as possible.
  9. Reading: The more we read, the more knowledge we gain. Actor Hrithik Roshan is an avid reader. In this era of electronic gadgets like the Kindle, the love of physical books is lost. We need to re-visit our friendly neighbourhood libraries and inculcate the habit of reading, so as not to lose out on this treasure.
  10. Mindfulness: “Being present” and focusing on one thing at a time is very important. Randy Garutti – CEO of Shake Shack franchise says this is the key to his success. He says it is better to concentrate on one task instead of attacking numerous tasks at one go, thereby enabling us to devote more time and energy to the successful completion of the one task at hand.
  11. Work-life balance: Maintaining a good balance between work and home is the need of the hour. Barack Obama is one such example. He ensures that he has his meals with his family and also helps his daughters get ready for school. He knows how to prioritize his family time, and we should too.
  12. Follow your dreams: We all have some dreams that we wish to fulfil. Famous fiction writer Franz Kafka was an insurance agent by day and a writer by night. This was a way for him to release all the stress and stay motivated. However busy we may be, we should take some time out for our hobbies/passions. This will keep us balanced.
  13. Motivation: Motivating ourselves is very necessary. A very good example is Cindy Ratzlaff, a Consultant, Speaker and author. She writes a “success goal” on the whiteboard in her office, which reminds her to ask herself if the act she is doing will bring her towards accomplishing the “success goal”. Focus on a goal on hand, brings a sense of purpose and eliminates distractions and time-wasting acts.
  14. Solitude: At times we need some quiet time alone, to contemplate and focus on the thoughts running through our heads. Albert Einstein, a theoretical physicist, philosopher and author, enjoyed long walks on the beach or staring at the ceiling so he could listen to the going-on in his mind. This helped him focus.
  15. Workout: We need to work out for a fit and healthy body. Of course, all of us are not comfortable with this, but those who are, need to keep doing it. Founder of Blogger and Twitter Evan Williams works out regularly to keep his mind sharp. This increases his energy levels and he can focus better on his work.

We all need to follow these habits and see how our life changes for the better. Of course, these are realistic and simple habits that we can easily imitate.

Celebrities are mortals just like us and they too feel the same way we do. It is just that we hold them in awe as they have achieved what we dream of achieving. Therefore, if we, too, wish to be successful, all we need to do is focus on the fundamentals mentioned above, and voila, we will reach our goal. Believe in yourself and do not be scared of failure. As Virat Kohli says “Self-belief and hard work will always earn you success.” Remember there are no shortcuts

All successes begin with self-discipline. It starts with you
