Chole Bhature used to trap, stab teen 12 times
A 17-year-old boy in Ghaziabad lost his life after a conflict stemming from a social media interaction. The teen was allegedly murdered by three others over a disagreement linked to Instagram activity involving a girl both the victim and one of the accused followed.
A Social Media Rivalry
According to police sources, the victim had been following and engaging with a girl on Instagram, liking her photos and leaving comments. This seemingly ordinary interaction triggered anger in Waseem Khan, one of the accused, who also followed the same girl.
Waseem reportedly took issue with the victim’s presence on the girl’s posts. What started as online jealousy quickly turned personal. A confrontation had already occurred between the two in the past, but tensions continued to grow.
A Planned Attack
On July 22, Waseem, along with his two friends Mohammad Sahil, also an electrician, and Mohammad Rehan, a Class 10 student, reached out to the victim. They invited him out under the friendly pretence of eating chole bhature, a popular dish. Trusting their intent, the boy went along.
Instead of a casual outing, he was led to a secluded area in Ilaichipur, part of Loni’s Tronica City. There, the three launched a violent attack, stabbing him multiple times. After the assault, they left his body hidden in nearby bushes and fled the scene.
The Investigation and Arrests
After the victim was reported missing, local police launched an investigation. Using electronic surveillance and manual tracking, they narrowed down the suspects. The three were arrested soon after and confessed to their involvement.
Police confirmed the motive was linked to the girl on Instagram. According to ACP Siddharth Gautam, Waseem had grown possessive and angry over the victim’s online activity involving her.
Autopsy Findings
The post-mortem report revealed that the victim had sustained 27 injuries, including 12 deep stab wounds. The injuries were located across the chest, limbs, and back, suggesting the attack was not only brutal but carried out with the intention to kill.
The cause of death was confirmed as hemorrhagic shock due to multiple stab wounds.
The Bigger Picture: More Than Just a Crime
This case isn’t just about a tragic murder; it reflects something deeper: the growing emotional volatility among teens and the blurred lines between online and real-world behaviour.
Many young people today spend large parts of their lives online. For some, likes, follows, and comments are more than casual gestures; they become matters of pride, identity, and sometimes, rivalry. When emotional maturity doesn’t keep up with digital exposure, small disagreements can spiral into real harm.
What We Need to Address
- Digital awareness education in schools
- Open conversations between parents and teens about online behaviour
- Early emotional support and counselling for adolescents struggling with jealousy, insecurity, or peer pressure
- Stronger social guidance on how to handle rejection, competition, and online interactions
Conclusion
A life was lost over a few Instagram comments. Three other young lives are now facing the weight of a murder charge. This tragedy could have been avoided with guidance, understanding, and better emotional tools.
We can’t control every action young people take online, but we can teach them to navigate the digital world with empathy, responsibility, and emotional intelligence. Because when online rivalries turn into real-world violence, everyone loses.
