It Began Like a Normal Delivery - Until It Wasn’t
The mother from Deoeada village was rushed to the PHC after going into labour. On duty were Dr. Prasanna Suna and nurse Sindhulata Jani. The first baby, a healthy boy, was born around 10 AM without any issues.
But then came the surprise: she was carrying two more babies. In a rural facility without surgical backup or neonatal ICU support, this instantly became a high-risk case.
Help From 26 Kilometres Away - Via Phone
Without a moment to transfer the mother to a bigger hospital, Dr. Suna and Nurse Jani approached Dr. Dibyajyoti Kar at Tumudibandha Community Health Centre, 26 km away. It was risky to move the mother in mid-labour. Dr. Kar, therefore, conducted the whole process over the phone.

The newborns were shifted to the Special Newborn Care Unit at Baliguda Hospital. Doctors there confirmed all three are in stable condition.
