Haryana Sex Ratio 2025 Rises: Now 907 Girls per 1,000 Boys
The Haryana sex ratio 2025 has improved to 907 girls per 1,000 boys, a rise from 899 recorded during the same period last year. This encouraging progress reflects the impact of ongoing initiatives under the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign.
Weekly Review by State Task Force
The new figures were shared during the weekly meeting of the State Task Force (STF) for improving the sex ratio. Chaired by Sudhir Rajpal, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), the meeting emphasised stronger enforcement against illegal abortions and unethical medical practices.
Transgender Community to Celebrate Birth of Girls
In a first-of-its-kind step towards inclusion, the Haryana government announced that members of the transgender community will now celebrate the birth of girls — just as they have traditionally done for boys. They will visit the newborn’s home and present a certificate worth ₹21,000 under the ‘Aapki Beti Hamari Beti’ scheme. This amount will be invested with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in the name of the girl.
To support this initiative, the government has proposed an incentive of ₹1,100 for each transgender individual participating. The campaign will be carried out under the guidance of the respective Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of each district.
Crackdown on Illegal Abortions
Further, the meeting stressed the urgent need to prevent illegal abortions, especially those that may involve gender-based discrimination. Rajpal instructed that any doctor involved in such practices should face strict punishment, including license cancellation.
Reverse Tracking of Abortions
As part of their surveillance, the Health Department is implementing reverse tracking of all Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and abortion cases beyond 12 weeks. Special attention is being given to cases where the woman already has one or more daughters.
In July alone:
- 32 FIRs were registered for suspected illegal abortions.
- 32 arrests were made.
- 4 more FIRs are under process.
- 38 notices were issued to private clinics and hospitals.
This focused effort is designed to discourage selective abortions and protect the rights of the girl child.
Focus on IVF and ANC Monitoring
The Haryana sex ratio 2025 strategy also includes close monitoring of IVF clinics. Rajpal directed that all embryo implantations via IVF must be registered under Antenatal Care (ANC) to improve transparency and surveillance.
Coordination Between Health and Police Departments
To ensure effective action, Rajpal called on the Police Department to work closely with Health Department teams. Their joint responsibility will be to:
- Identify and shut down illegal abortion centres
- Ensure the arrest and prosecution of guilty parties
- Submit progress reports on filed FIRs by next week
Conclusion
The steady rise in the Haryana sex ratio 2025 is a positive sign of changing attitudes and the success of government-led interventions. With inclusive initiatives like involving the transgender community and strict actions against sex-selective practices, the state continues to move forward in promoting gender equality and safeguarding the rights of the girl child.
